Bernie Property

The property is comprised of multiple lots totaling 22.6116ha currently grazing dry stock cattle. It spans two tributaries of the Tahawai sub-catchment and the landscape is strongly rolling to steep with predominantly LUC class 6e land with areas of 4e and 7e.

The property has multiple springs and forest remnants in steep gullies which have previously been retired from grazing(approx. 4.74ha) and works co-funded by Council through no legal protection mechanism was registered against these areas. Stock are not currently excluded from all the waterways on the property. This programme provides a plan to assist the landowners to extend the protection areas to retire all the stream and margins on the property, an additional 1.96ha.

A 20m average buffer will be applied to the waterways with it being significantly more in places where the terrain is particularly steep and ultimately not suited to grazing and will make for a more logical fence alignment.A total Protection Area of 6.7ha will be protected under an encumbrance which includes those areas previously protected but no legal mechanism registered.
